Grant Aid For Drilling a Well in Cork

How much will my well cost?
Every well is different in terms of depth. Price in ft/meter is given in a free quotation.

If I install a new well, am I subject to government water charges?
No. Private wells are not charged water rates.

Do I need planning permission from my local authority to drill a well?
Planning permission is not needed for existing properties, however, it is required for new builds.

At what stage of my building project should I consider having my well drilled?
The well should be drilled as a soon as ground works have begun, thus making it easier for the rest of the project to commence, and ensuring a better quality water supply.

How far should a potable water (drinking water) well be located from a septic tank system?
Regulation may require an offset of over 100 feet. (30.5 Meters).

What is the first step in drilling well?

Is it possible to share a well?
Yes, it is possible to share a well with 2-3 dwellings depending on the water quantity in the well. This often results in cost savings. Please see the Group Water Supply Scheme on our grants page.

How often should I get my well tested?
The EPA recommends that a private water supply should be tested on an annual basis. (Brochure for taking care of your well)

There is very little water pressure in my tap, why is this?
There may be a problem with the pump or pressure tank. It may need a service. Please Contact us

My water is rusty/brown in colour, why is this?
There may be excess iron present in your water, a filtration system is the solution to this problem. Contact us to discuss filtration systems.

There is a rotten egg smell coming from my water, why is this?
This is caused by excess manganese in you water, a filtration system is the solution to this problem. Contact us to discuss filtration.

How often should I get my pump system serviced?
D.T.O.S. Water recommends an annual service, please see our service and maintenance page for info on maintenance contracts including servicing and well testing.

Should I be worried that my newly drilled well may dry up?
Water held in the aquifer may fluctuate during the course of the year, however, in very rare cases the well may dry up. Contact us here to discuss your well today.

How can I be sure my water to safe to drink ?
If you are uncertain as to if your water is safe to drink we recommend that you get your water tested
