Geo Thermal
Geothermal heating systems are an environmentally friendly way to heat your home or business premises. Geothermal heat pumps use the natural heat from under the earth’s surface to heat your water. As a result of the absorption of Solar energy beneath the earth’s surface, the temperature remains slightly warmer that surface temperature. They operate on the fact that the earth beneath the surface remains at a constant temperature throughout the year, and thus that the ground acts as a heat source in winter and a heat sink in summer. This temperature varies between 11ºC and 13ºC in Ireland.
Pipes with an anti-freeze solution are then placed down the bore-holes and the heat energy is then transferred to the geothermal unit. The extracted heat is then delivered to your home through underfloor heating or radiators.
Geothermal is a safe form of heat for your home, there is no flame and the system does not require any ventilation or chimney which in turn further increases the energy rating of you home.
GeoThermal is arguably the safest form of heat you can use for your home, there is no flame, no fuel store and no risk of burns from dangerously hot surfaces. A GeoThermal heating system is also very discreet, the collection lives under the ground and is usually invisible. The heat pump is a compact item and can be located inside or outside the house, with silent operation. It requires no ventilation or chimney.
A Geothermal system is more than 3 times as efficient as the most conventional system, saving money on heating bills while also helping the environment.
Geothermal Heating government grants are available for the installation of renewable energy systems. See Sustainable Energy Ireland for further information.
